Even before face-to-face meeting in Dubai Ravichandran Ashwin had a chat with the head coach of Delhi Daredevils Ricky Ponting over the phone regarding the much controversial ‘mankading’. Ashwin on the first video uploaded on his YouTube channel revealed the same.

What’s the story?
The IPL 2019 gave birth to one of the hottest controversies of the league across the editions. Ravichandran Ashwin ‘mandkaded’ Jos Buttler during a match between Kings XI Punjab and Rajasthan Royals. While a lot criticized the Punjab skipper citing the spirit of the game, a lot came up to defend the act as it did not violate any ‘rule’ as such. Post the edition, Ravichandran Ashwin was traded to Delhi Capitals which means he would be now seen playing for the side coached by Australian great Ricky Ponting. Ashwin also defended his act of mankading whenever he was asked about the game spirit.
Ponting was asked to comment on the issue on The Grade Cricketer Podcast. The Delhi Capitals head coach said that he would have a “hard conversation” with Ashwin over Mankad dismissal. “Obviously, he wasn’t in our squad last year, he’s one of our players that we tried to afford to bring in this year. Look, he’s a terrific bowler, and he’s done a great job in IPL for a long period of time now, but I must admit watching that last season, as soon as it happened and he did that, I actually sat our boys down and said ‘look, I know he’s done it, there’ll be others around the tournament who’ll think about doing this well, but that’s not going to be the way that we play our cricket, we won’t be doing that’.”
Ricky Ponting will Not Allow Mankading; Ashwin to be Informed Soon
Ashwin-Ponting conversation
On the first episode of his Youtube show ‘Hello Dubaiahh?’ Ravichandran Ashwin himself spoke about it and informed that he already had a chat with the coach. Terming the phone conversation as an interesting one Ashwin said, “Ricky Ponting hasn’t yet reached (Dubai). After he comes, we will sit for a chat with him. He said he wants to have a conversation. We have already spoken over the phone. It was a very interesting chat.”
Ravichandran Ashwin did not give much detail about the conversation. He went on to comment, “What happens sometimes is Australians’ messages in English get lost in translation and reach us with a different meaning. Even some of their jokes become news. That’s what it is and next week I will reveal a bit more about my conversation with Ricky.”
