Ravichandran Ashwin’s move to Delhi Capitals has been completed. The official announcement will be made soon as well.
Move finalized
Ravichandran Ashwin’s future with Kings XI Punjab has been the talk to the town for quite a while. Ness Wadia the co-owner of Punjab team earlier refuted the rumours. But the story turns out to be something different. The speculations turn out to be true and Delhi have secured the services of the ace spinner for the next IPL edition. If a source’s version to IANS is to be believed the announcement will be made soon as the move is completed. “Yes, it is done and we will announce soon,” the official said.
Even a senior BCCI source revealed to PTI, “Yes, Ashwin is joining Delhi Capitals. The deal had earlier fell through as KXIP didn’t get the two DC players that they wanted in a trade-off with Ashwin. Now they are getting those two players and it’s 99 per cent done.”
KL Rahul, the probable captain
Whereas Wadia gave a different impression earlier, Anil Kumble, the newly recruited Director of Cricket Operations of Kings XI Punjab expressed uncertainty over the player’s future in KXIP. He explained that he could not speak on the matter in detail just after joining the board. “No decision has been taken yet. I have just come on board, in the last one week. We will know in the due course the decisions we are going to make. I haven’t got down to the details of the squad. The players we are going to retain, the players we are going to trade, none of those areas have been looked into,” former India head coach Kumble had said.
But Kumble did inform about Ashwin not continuing as the skipper anymore. Now, this move means Punjab will look for a new captain. In all probability, K.L. Rahul will be handed over the responsibility. A source from the KXIP camp opined, “Yes, that is very much a possibility because Rahul is not only one of the senior players, but also understands the working of the team and the strengths and weaknesses of those in the team.”
