IPL 2021: Here’s The Reason Why Anrich Nortje is not Playing Today Against Chennai Super Kings

Delhi Capitals are playing their first match of this IPL against Chennai Super Kings. While Rishabh Pant is excited to be there against his ‘Mahi Bhai’, he must be missing a few crucial names from the team including Anrich Nortje.

No Nortje

Rishabh Pant has been handed over the role of captaincy for the runners-up of last year, Delhi Capitals this time. In absence of Shreyas Iyer, the regular captain, DC management decided to trust the young brain. Rishabh Pant is out their leading in an IPL match for the first time in Mumbai against Mahendra Singh Dhoni’s Chennai Super Kings.

Roshabh Pant spoke about the match and the playing XI. “The wicket is slightly softer underneath. I’m going to be a mix of experience and youth.” He further informed, “Stoinis, Hetmyer, Woakes, and Tom Curran are our overseas players. We are not playing in Delhi, so we are fine.”

Why is Nortje not playing?

Anrich Nortje and Kagiso Rabada reached Mumbai on April 6 to join their IPL team, Delhi Capitals. According to the IPL SOPS they had to observe quarantine at least for a week after arrival. Naturally Nortje failed to be available for the first IPL 2021 match of Delhi Capitals against the Chennai Super Kings today at Wankhede Stadium. He is however expected to be available for selection to play the next game on April 15 against the Rajasthan Royals.
