Even after losing the first match of season to Delhi Capitals, Chennai Super Kings decided to keep faith in the team and did not make any change in the second match. This means CSK will be once again playing without the veteran Imran Tahir.
Why is Tahir missing?
After Chennai’s performance in the first match of the campaign, a few expected them to make some changes in the playing XI for the second match in Mumbai. However, when Dhoni disclosed the team after winning the toss, it was clear that the management did not want any modification. They decided to go with the same set of foreigners namely Faf fu Plessis, Moeen Ali, Sam Curran, and Dwayne Bravo. They could have gone with a few changes and thought of adding Imran Tahir. But it seems they want to trust the same lineup given this is just the second match.
IPL 2021: Why Gautam Gambhir thinks MS Dhoni can’t be leading like this?
Squad: Ruturaj Gaikwad, Faf du Plessis, Suresh Raina, Moeen Ali, Ambati Rayudu, MS Dhoni (capt&wk), Ravindra Jadeja, Sam Curran, Dwayne Bravo, Shardul Thakur, Deepak Chahar
Dhoni’s take
MS Dhoni said after the toss, “The only thing they need to remember is they will get hit off good balls, but you need to assess whether it was a good shot or bad delivery. Otherwise, they’ve been doing well in practice sessions. Mostly, it’s a mental game in cricket. Adaptability is the key factor, overall it’s more of a mental game than the physical aspect. To start off, pitch looks tacky and a bit more grass. As the game progresses, dew will come and it will settle. It will do a bit in the first few overs.”
Last time it was the failure of bowling unit that caused defeat to CSK. This time, the bowlers would try to rectify the same after the continuous trust of management and skipper.
