As the game of cricket evolved over the years, more and more technology is being introduced. There isn’t just one coach anymore that takes care of the proceedings. Every team has a coach for every department and there are analysts too that process a lot of data.
So, it’s not just the captain that takes the decisions but there is a whole bunch that is involved in the decision making. Recently, in the IPL, we witnessed a unique manner in which the instructions were communicated to the on-field captain.
In the match between Punjab Kings and Kolkata Knight Riders in Ahmedabad, the KKR dug out used codes to send messages to Eoin Morgan. There were two large digits that were placed on writing pads in the dug out. Each number must have meant a specific plan that would have been discussed in the team planning. This method was earlier seen being used in England.

In cricket, a captain has to make the calls on the field and he has the players to take help from at most. The IPL matches have two strategic time-outs in each innings of a match. The team staff is allowed to come on to the field to discuss for two and a half minutes. But KKR’s management has taken the planning to altogether a different level.
