Since the inception of IPL, the love story between Chennai Super Kings and Dhoni has been a highlight. Barring the two seasons when this team was banned, Dhoni has led the side in every occasion. He has taken them to their third IPL title in as recent as 2018. However, the IPL 2020 was disheartening for Dhoni and CSK. After his retirement from international cricket, when all expected a strong show in 2020 Dhoni ended with 200 runs with his lowest ever average and second lowest strike rate. Shikhar Dhawan:
Shikhar Dhawan is one of the most experienced players in the history of the league. Dhawan was traded from SRH before the 2019 IPL and since then became one of the mainstays in the Capitals top order. Last year despite having an inconsistent season Dhawan finished as their highest run scorer with 618 runs. This also included his two back-to-back centuries which was a record in itself. In Iyer’s absence, Dhawan’s form will be important for Delhi Capitals in this season. He will need to provide good starts to Delhi Capitals. He will also be part of the core leadership group of the side and work as a mentor to Pant. Dhawan has been out the T20 national team for a while and with T20I World Cup knocking at the door it will be an opportunity for him to stake his claim for the same.
