In a major development, Mumbai Indians skipper Rohit Sharma will miss the crucial game against Kolkata Knight Riders in the IPL 2023 due to a stomach bug. As a result, Suryakumar Yadav will lead the Mumbai Indians in the match.
Mumbai’s special initiative
The announcement was made just before the toss on Sunday afternoon, leaving fans and team members surprised. It was later revealed that Harmanpreet Kaur, the captain of the Indian women’s T20 team, accompanied Suryakumar Yadav to the center for the toss as part of Mumbai Indians’ initiative to promote gender equality and support young girls.
Duan Jansen in for Rohit Sharma
With Rohit Sharma out, Mumbai Indians have made one change to their playing XI, with Duan Jansen replacing the skipper. In another surprise move, Cameron Green will open the innings with Ishan Kishan.
“The pitch looks dry and there’s a history at this ground of teams chasing better. Duan Jansen comes in, that’s the only change”, Mumbai’s stand-in captain Suryakumar announced at the time of the toss.
On the other hand, Kolkata Knight Riders will be looking to bounce back from their previous defeat and continue their winning momentum. With the likes of Venkatesh Iyer, Nitish Rana, and Andre Russell in their ranks, they are a strong team and will pose a tough challenge to the Mumbai Indians.
As the Mumbai Indians take on Kolkata Knight Riders in this important clash, all eyes will be on Suryakumar Yadav and his leadership skills, as he looks to lead his team to victory in the absence of Rohit Sharma. Apart from Duan Janses, Arjun Tendulkar, the son of legendary Sachin Tendulkar is also making his debut for the Mumbai Indias. The 23-year-old all-rounder was included in the playing XI for the match against Kolkata Knight Riders at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
