IPL 2025 Mega Auction: Is Suryakumar Yadav Leaving Mumbai Indians?

Since the 2018 Indian Premier League, Suryakumar Yadav has been a member of the Mumbai Indians. According to a rumor circulating on social media, Suryakumar has received a captaincy offer from Kolkata Knight Riders and may be traded to rejoin his previous team. We examine the veracity of the widely shared assertion here.

Is Suryakumar Yadav Really Leaving Mumbai Indians?

The Mumbai Indians (MI) had a dismal Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 campaign, finishing last with just four victories in 14 games. The franchise did not do well after Hardik Pandya returned to MI and replaced Rohit Sharma as captain.

The IPL team owners and the BCCI recently met to talk about the future. The board is probably going to hold the mega-auction even though a few franchises opposed it prior to IPL 2025. Only four or six players will be able to be retained by the teams. The mega-auction may see the revival of the Right to Match (RTM) card.

Posts about this trending claim are all over social media. But is there a chance Suryakumar may swap to KKR and depart MI? Before the 2025 IPL, will KKR replace their victorious IPL captain?

But a Mi Source told the media, “No, he won’t leave. Just people speculating on social media in order to get engagement.”

Suryakumar Yadav’s Hand Injury

Suryakumar’s hand injury from last week has prevented him from competing in the Duleep Trophy 2024’s first round. The 33-year-old recently made his red-ball cricket comeback for Mumbai during the Buchi Babu Invitational. He was hurt during play on the last day of the match against TNCA XI and was unable to bat.

Whether Suryakumar recovers in time for the Duleep Trophy 2024 second round would be interesting to watch. In his Test debut against Australia in 2023, Suryakumar managed just eight runs. Since then, he has not participated in a Test match. He recently stated that he would also like to play in the red-ball format.
