Stoinis helps LSG put up a decent total on a challenging track
On Tuesday night at the Ekana Cricket Stadium, Lucknow, the Mumbai Indians were chasing a target of 178 runs. With only 11 runs required from the final over and big hitters Tim David and Cameron Green at the crease, the pressure was on Lucknow Super Giants’ bowler Mohsin Khan.
Earlier in the match, Lucknow Super Giants had faced a challenging situation after losing three early wickets. However, Marcus Stoinis played a sensational innings, remaining unbeaten on 89 runs off just 47 balls. It was Stoinis’ highest score in the IPL and proved instrumental in setting a competitive total of 177l on what appeared to be a difficult pitch to bat on.
Mumbai’s quick-paced start
In response, Mumbai Indians started their chase aggressively, with Ishan Kishan and Rohit Sharma forming a formidable opening partnership. They added 90 runs in just 9.4 overs, seemingly putting Mumbai in a commanding position. However, Lucknow’s Ravi Bishnoi dismissed both batsmen, providing a glimmer of hope for his team.
With 30 runs required from the last two overs, Tim David showcased his hitting prowess by smashing two sixes off Naveen-ul-Haq, reducing the target to just 11 runs from six balls. However, it was Mohsin Khan’s exceptional final over that turned the tide in Lucknow Super Giants’ favor.
Mohsin Khan’s last over
In the last over, MI required 11 runs to win, with Tim David and Cameron Green, two big hitters on strike. LSG’s captain, Krunal Pandya, trusted Mohsin Khan with the final over.
