Lucknow Super Giants and Sunrisers Hyderabad locked horns at the Ekana Stadium in Lucknow for Match 10 of the Indian Premier League. The match was rather slow-paced compared to other games in the league. The match was a special one for Sunrisers Hyderabad as it marked the debut of Aiden Markram as the captain of the franchise. However, the players could not perform to the best of their ability as SRH ended up losing the game by 5 wickets.
Winning the toss, SRH decided to bat first on a slow track. The decision soon came back to hurt them as they lost their opener Mayank Agarwal in the third over itself. From thereon, the team’s struggle continued as the batters failed to find their mark. Rahul Tripathi and Washington Sundar tried to provide some stability to the innings but were very slow. A 10-ball 21 from Abdul Samad put SRH to 121 runs else at one point, it seemed like the team would plummet somewhere around 110 as their run rate was even below 6 for most of the innings.
The chase was rather easy for the Lucknow Super Giants as their captain KL Rahul and star all-rounder Krunal Pandya did most of the job for them. Krunal, who picked up 3 wickets in the first innings, also scored 34 runs in 23 balls to dismantle all remaining hopes that the Sunrisers had. Nicholas Pooran finished off the game in style with a six off of Natarajan on the final ball of the sixteenth over to steer LSG home.
With this win, LSG have 4 points in 3 games and are now comfortably seated at the top of the points table. Sunrisers started the game at the bottom of the table and have continued to be there after today’s loss. They now have 2 losses in 2 games.
