IPL Stats: Most Sixes by Players in each season of Indian Premier League

The 13th season of the Indian Premier League is all set to begin on September 19. Amid pandemic, the league is about to bring some positivity for cricket enthusiasts. Since its inception in 2008, the league has been one of a kind. There are multiple T20 leagues played across the globe that attract a huge number of audiences, but not a single one has been able to match the sensation called IPL. The league offers entertainment at the highest level. Since the beginning, there have been hardly any superstars of the cricket world who have not taken part in at least one edition of the cash-rich league. Such is the aura of the Indian Premier League and they have created moments of their own. 

Here we are listing the players with the most number of sixes in each season. From the veterans to the contemporary superstars- you will find them all!

Sanath Jayasuriya – IPL 2008

Sanath Jayasuriya, the Sri Lankan legend is one of the yesteryear’s stars who featured in the league. In fact, he smashed 31 sixes in the inaugural season of the league while playing for Mumbai Indians led by Sachin Tendulkar.

Adam Gilchrist – IPL 2009

Adam Gilchrist was a mainstay of the unbeaten Australian team for a long time. This maestro impressed one and all with his 22 maximums in the second season of IPL while playing for Deccan Chargers.

Robin Uthappa – 2010

The next name might come as a surprise to a few cricket fans because of his last year’s form. But the veteran has been one consistent IPL face. He scored 27 sixes for Royal Challengers in IPL 2010.

Chris Gayle – 2011

This name is never a surprise when it comes to big hits. The Universe Boss is in the last phase of his career but he has given his best to the Indian Premier League thus far. The West Indian star hit 44 sixes while representing Royal Challengers Bangalore during IPL 2011.

Chris Gayle – 2012

And Gayle did not stop! He continued his show in the next season as well to record 59 maximums to his name, yet again for the Bangalore based team.

Chris Gayle – 2013

Gayle was on a hat-trick in IPL 2013 when he again ended as the highest six-hitter batter in the league. This time the number was reduced 51 but the team was the same. 

Glenn Maxwell – 2014

The Australian was playing for Kings XI Punjab in 2014. He hit 36 sixes in the tournament to finish with the most number of over boundaries against his name. 

Chris Gayle – 2015

But Gayle was not ready to let that top spot someone else. He was back to his usual best in 2015 and smashed 38 sixes in IPL 2015 playing for Royal Challengers Bangalore. 

Virat Kohli – 2016

The next edition saw Royal Challengers Bangalore captain Virat Kohli hitting some massive sixes and interesting he was followed by two of his teammates in the top five- AB de Villiers and Chris Gayle. 

Glenn Maxwell – 2017

Kings XI star Glenn Maxwell was back to reclaim the top in IPL 2017. He went on to his 26 sixes while leading the Punjab side in the tournament. 

Rishabh Pant – 2018

Indian Premier League has worked as a platform for many youngsters to rise. Rishabh Pant is definitely one such name who showed his caliber to the world when he hit 37 sixes for then Delhi Daredevils in IPL 2018.

Andre Russell – 2019

Last year Andre Russell booked the top place. No wonder he is one of the famous faces when it comes to T20 leagues across the globe. Russell hit 52 maximums while playing for Kolkata Knight Riders in IPL 2019.
