Ireland’s Paul Stirling Faces “Tough Loss” In T20 World Cup 2024 Match Against Canada

Match 13 out of 55 for the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 has been concluded with an epic face off between Ireland and Canada at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York.

The T20 World Cup 2024 had started on June 1, with Canada and USA competing in a match on 2 June when Canada lost the match. Ireland’s first fixture was against India, and the latter had won that match. Hence, Canada and Ireland had faced off losing 1 match each.

Paul Sterling’s disappointment after losing second match in a row

Team Ireland has lost their second match, out of the two they have played in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024. Their first loss was against team India on June 5, and while that loss can be excused, the one against Canada, which is a newer team, was not expected.

In the match, Ireland had won the toss and opted to bowl first. Canada scored 137/7 in the first innings while Ireland could only sum up to 125/7 in the second innings

Talking about the match at the post match segment, Ireland Captain Paul Sterling accepted that the target was achievable for his team. 

He also acknowledged that the team’s performance was off in all three facets of the game, batting, bowling and fielding.

“Tough loss today, we weren’t at the races today. The target was gettable, we didn’t think we’d struggle too much.” Paul said

“We were off in all three facets today, we need to show a better game when we go to Miami and Florida. We don’t want to look too far into the future, we’ve got USA next.” He added.
