India’s legendary off-spinner Harbhajan Singh revealed something astonishing about his private life. Speaking candidly and frankly, he accepted that he hasn’t spoken a word to his former captain MS Dhoni in more than a decade.
Have MS Dhoni and Harbhajan Singh Drifted Apart?
These two cricketing legends have had some of India’s greatest moments together. This includes winning the T20 World Cup in 2007 and the ODI World Cup in 2011. However, Harbhajan revealed that the two legends have drifted apart in the last decade or so.
“No, I don’t speak to Dhoni,” Harbhajan said in an interview with News18. “When we played together for Chennai Super Kings (CSK), we talked, but it was limited to the field. Beyond that, it’s been over 10 years since we’ve had a proper conversation. I don’t know the reason, but maybe he does.”
“Relationships Are About Effort”: Harbhajan Singh.
Harbhajan was candid about how he approached friendships, emphasizing mutual respect and effort. “I don’t have anything against him. If he had something on his mind, he’d have told me,” he said.
He explained that he prefers to stay connected with those who reciprocate. “I only call people who pick up my calls. I don’t have the time to chase after anyone. Relationships are about give and take. If I respect you, I expect that respect back. If I don’t get a response after a couple of tries, I won’t push it.”
While Harbhajan remains in touch with former teammates like Yuvraj Singh and Ashish Nehra, he admitted that he and Dhoni never took the initiative to maintain their bond off the field.
Harbhajan’s Memories with Dhoni at CSK
Harbhajan and Dhoni last played together for India in 2015, but they reunited briefly during the 2018 and 2019 IPL seasons for CSK. Even then, Harbhajan said their conversations were strictly professional. “When we were at CSK, we only talked on the ground. He didn’t come to my room, and I didn’t go to his.”
Harbhajan, now 44, has moved to commentary after his final stint in IPL with Kolkata Knight Riders in 2021. Dhoni, on the other hand, continues to be part of CSK and will feature in IPL 2025.
