SA vs IND finals: Keshav Maharaj takes pride in South Africa’s field. India is facing off against South Africa in the finals of the tournament. India vs South Africa is being held in the Kensington Oval, Barbados and fans from both sides are excited to see their teams perform.
A victory for India would bring them their first ICC trophy since the last time they won one in 2013, while South Africa has reached the finals for the first time in any ICC World Cup.
India won the toss and opted to bat first in the dry pitch of Barbados. The team started off on a rough side, losing Rohit Sharma at 9 runs, Rishabh Pant on a duck and Suryakumar Yadav out on 3. However, the team made 176/7 runs in 20 overs, thanks to Virat Kohli who scored 76 off 54 balls.

Coming from Indian descent, South Africa’s Keshav Maharaj has been a big asset for his team. He not only dismissed promising Indian batsmen Rohit Sharma and Rishabh Pant, but also took a catch of Ravindra Jadeja I’m the final stage of India’s batting.
Speaking in the mid-innings statement, Maharaj made it clear how happy he is to have done so well for his team. He also said that the South African team takes pride in their fielding.
“I was just trying to use the surface, use the breeze and luckily it paid off. The pitch started off slow, it has got better now and hopefully it will be good to chase. The catching and outfielding was good, it’s something we pride ourselves on. We can do it, opportunities like this don’t come often and the boys are ready to go. Hope we can grab it with both hands.” Keshav said.
Axar and Kohli’s team-saving partnership
The first innings of today’s match was entertaining to say the least. While most of the top order lost their wickets in the start of innings 1, Virat Kohli and Axar Patel came together in what seems like a game-turning partnership.
Axar scored 47 runs off 31 balls, equalling up to a strike rate of 151.61, he scored 1 four and 4 sixes, which gave India an upper hand. Virat on the other hand, scored 76 off 59 balls with a strike rate of 128.81 with 6 fours and 2 sixes.
The highest strike rate was of Shivam Dube, who got dismissed early on, scoring 27 off 16 balls. Dube has 3 fours and 1 six to his name in today’s match.
As South Africa bats now, we are yet to see which team takes away the trophy today.
