Former India captain and current head coach Rahul Dravid presented a special cap to Virat Kohli, another former Indian captain who appeared for his 100th Test match today at Mohali. Dravid, one of the finest Test batters of India delivered a brief speech before handing over the cap to Kohli. Kohli had his wife, brother, childhood coach alongside him for the very special moment.
Kohli was felicitated by Dravid in the presence of the entire Indian side ahead of the first Test match between India and Sri Lanka. Rahul Dravid said, “It’s a testament to everything that is great in our sport… sweat, discipline, courage, skill, determination, desire, focus, you had it all. You had a great journey. You can be very proud of not only playing the 100th Test match but also for the great journey that you have navigated through. Congratulations to you and your family on this fantastic achievement. It’s well deserved, well earned, and hopefully it is just the start of many things to come. As we say in the dressing room, double it up.”
Kohli in reply remembered his moment with Dravid at NCA when the former was just 15. He said, continued and sounded elated to receive the memento from one of his childhood heroes. Kohli said, “I couldn’t have received it from a better person, one of my childhood heroes. I still have that picture in my house from under-15 NCA days, where I was looking at you and taking a picture with you and today, I get my 100th Test cap from you.”
Meanwhile Kohli became only the 12th Indian to play 100th Test match for Indian cricket team. He joined an elite list comprising legendary names of Sachin Tendulkar (200), Rahul Dravid (163), VVS Laxman (134), Anil Kumble (132), Kapil Dev (131), Sunil Gavaskar (125), Dilip Vengsarkar (116), Sourav Ganguly (113), Ishant Sharma (105), Harbhajan Singh (103), and Virender Sehwag (103).
