Jacob Oram Appointed as New Zealand Men’s Bowling Coach

Jacob Oram, the former New Zealand all-rounder, has been officially appointed as the new bowling coach for the New Zealand Men’s cricket team. This decision comes in the wake of Shane Jurgensen’s departure from the role. Oram’s appointment marks a return to a familiar position, as he has previously served as the bowling coach during several significant events, including last year’s Test tour of Bangladesh, the T20I series against Australia, and the ICC T20 World Cup earlier this year.

Oram’s Renewed Enthusiasm

Jacob Oram has expressed his excitement about stepping back into the coaching role with the Black Caps.

 In a recent statement, Oram said, “I’m really excited to have the opportunity to be involved with the Black Caps again.” 

He described his return as a significant honour, noting the team’s importance in his career.

Oram also highlighted the promising talent emerging within New Zealand‘s bowling ranks and expressed his eagerness to contribute to their development.

A Look at Oram’s Coaching Career

Oram’s coaching journey began in 2014 when he started with New Zealand A. He later served as the bowling coach for the New Zealand Women’s team from 2018.

 Last summer, he was appointed as the head coach of Central Hinds, leading them to the Super Smash final.

His international coaching experience includes roles as an assistant coach in the Abu Dhabi T10 league and as the bowling coach for MI Cape Town in the SA20.

Head coach Gary Stead praised Oram’s extensive experience, noting his deep understanding of international cricket and franchise cricket. 

Stead highlighted that Oram’s past playing and coaching experiences will be valuable in navigating the evolving landscape of modern cricket and in connecting with contemporary players.

Oram had an illustrious playing career, amassing 173 wickets in ODIs, 63 in Tests, and 19 in T20Is, along with over 4,500 runs across all formats.
