In a bold move, all the players from the England Cricket team, jetted out to their homeland to prepare for the upcoming T20 World Cup, claiming it to be ‘national duty’. Curran was named in England’s five-match T20 series squad against Pakistan and will join the team for the first T2OI, scheduled on May 22 at Leeds.

In the meantime, the PBKS team is being led by Jitesh Sharma from the team, for their last match of IPL 2024. The PBKS team is already put of the race to qualify for the playoffs, after winning 5 out of the 13 matches they played.

When Sunil Gavaskar got mad at the English cricketers

Sunil Gavaskar, former India captain, has urged the BCCI and IPL franchises to take some strict steps as a response to the England and Wales Cricket Board’s directive that players return home for national duty before the T20 World Cup.

In his column for Mid Day, Gavaskar asked IPL franchisees to penalise the players, with some part of their pay for being in the tournament, stressing the financial consequences of their premature exit. “I am all for players choosing country before anything else, but having assured various franchises about their availability for the full season, if they pull out now, it will be letting down the franchises. The franchises should not only be allowed to deduct a substantial amount from the fee that the player was bought for, but also not give the Board, to which the player belongs, the stated 10 per cent commission of the fee that each player gets,” Gavaskar stated.
