Jofra Archer makes a comeback to competitive cricket through this Indian team

England pacer Jofra Archer is currently in Bengaluru with his county side Sussex, attending a pre-season camp. He is working hard to be fit in time for the ICC T20 World Cup 2024.

Archer’s presence in Bengaluru had sparked speculation that he might play for the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the IPL. Despite going unsold in the auction, Archer is practicing with Sussex to stay fit. He missed IPL 2022 due to injury and played only five games for Mumbai Indians in IPL 2023, picking up two wickets.

Archer to play for India?

But the England fast bowler was scheduled to play for Sussex county against Karnataka State Cricket Association. But in surprising turn of events, he is subbed to play for Karnataka team. He is working hard to make a competitive comeback to international cricket.

Archer’s recovery from his elbow injury is being closely monitored by the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) as they aim to have him fit for the T20 World Cup. The ECB believes managing Archer’s comeback would be easier if he remains in the UK in April and May under their supervision rather than playing in the IPL.

The defending champions, England, will begin their T20 World Cup campaign against Scotland on June 4, followed by matches against Australia and Oman on June 8 and June 13, respectively.

Archer’s absence was felt during England’s Test series against India, where they missed his pace and skill. He has played 13 Tests, 21 ODIs, and 15 T20Is, picking up 42, 42, and 18 wickets respectively. Archer has also played 40 IPL games, taking 48 wickets.

His last international match was in March 2023, and he has been out of the game since May 2023. Archer recently made his comeback to competitive cricket earlier this month, featuring in a second-division County Championship match.
