Rohit Sharma’s terrific performance against Australia
India captain Rohit Sharma was out for revenge. After the big upset against Australia in ODI World Cup 2023 finals, the Indian cricket team and their fans were looking forward to defeat Australia and get revenge for what transpired in the finale. With this, India captain Rohit Sharma scored a whopping 92 runs off 41 balls effectively shutting off the Australia team.
Rohit hit 15 thunderous boundaries in his innings, with 7 fours and 8 sixes against Australia. Rohit lost his wicket when Mitchell Starc bowled the wicket right off. However, history had already been made as Rohit scored the fastest 50 in the T20 World Cup 2024 in merely 19 balls.
Sharma deservedly won the Player Of The Match title in the post match ceremony, where he highlighted how he knew what he had to do in the match as an opening batsman.
“That’s what I have to do (in the powerplay), try and see what the bowlers are doing, play accordingly.” Rohit said while accepting the POTM title.
Josh Hazelwood praises Rohit Sharma
Australian pacer Josh Hazelwood admitted that his team was at fault when his team’s bowlers underestimated Rohit Sharma and got deviated while playing him.
“Yeah, I’ve seen Rohit do that a few times now. Yeah, he’s a world-class player, so if you’re a bit off your game that can happen.” Hazelwood said in the post match press conference.
“It just looked like he obviously targeted that short, sorry the boundary with the wind there for a while and then we probably reacted, and then he hit a few the other side as well so he’s a class act and you expect him to do that a couple of times through a tournament,” He added.
