“Just wanted to make the NRR higher and was not thinking about a hundred”: Yashasvi Jaiswal

For all the destruction on the field with the bat in hand, young Yashasvi Jaiswal is a very shy and humble person off the field. Jaiswal undoubtedly received all the accolades at the post-match presentation for his disdainful innings against the Kolkata Knight Riders.

Jaiswal was batting on 94 when RR needed four runs to win, therefore he needed a six to reach his century. Nevertheless, he was able to hit a four off Shardul Thakur, and he eventually made 98 off 47 balls with 12 fours and 5 sixes. 

Speaking at the post-match presentation, Jaiswal said that the winning shot was the shot he liked the most and was looking to finish the game as quickly as possible rather than looking for a hundred.

“The shot with which I won is what’s most pleasing because I’m learning to play till the end and win it for the team. That’s my motto. I’m blessed, grateful, and trying my best. I just wanted to make the NRR higher and not thinking about a hundred,” he stated.

The southpaw led the Rajasthan Royals (RR) to a commanding nine-wicket victory over the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata on Thursday, May 11. He also scored the quickest fifty in IPL history. With the victory, the Royals climbed to third place in the standings with 12 points and a net run rate of +0.633 as a result of victories in six of their previous 12 games.

Yashasvi tore down Nitish Rana in the first over itself scoring 26 runs. The game was over in the first over itself with the only possibility of how quickly the game would finish. This year in the IPL, many teams are sandwiched at the same points with the net run rate as the separating factor between them. So, it was important for the Rajasthan Royals to finish the game as quickly as possible. 

Yashasvi was in no mood to stop today. As the opposition captain rightly said during the post-match, “It was a day when he could do anything he wanted.”

The youngster was in complete control of his game as he continued the onslaught even after his quickest IPL fifty. His performance at the IPL served as a showcase for his talent and class as he scored the fastest fifty in the league’s history. Even though he narrowly missed the hundred, the ‘selfless’ act of Jaiswal has already shown that he always puts the team ahead of his personal milestones.
