Kagiso Rabada Shatters Waqar Younis’ Record, Becomes Fastest to 300 Test Wickets by Balls Bowled

The cricket world is witnessing some thrilling matches of the longest format. Bangladesh is facing South Africa in a two-match Test series. As the first match of the series unfolds at the iconic Sher-E-Bangla Stadium, South Africa’s ace pacer Kagiso Rabada unlocked a historic milestone. Kagiso Rabada became the fastest to take 300 Test wickets by balls bowled. He broke the previous record set by Pakistan’s Waqar Younis. 

Rabada’s Record-Breaking Milestone:

After facing a whitewash against India, Bangladesh rebounded in confidence and faced South Africa in a two-match Test series. The iconic Sher-E-Bangla Stadium is hosting the first Test match of the two-match Test series. At the beginning of the first Test match, South African pacer Kagiso Rabada unlocked a thrilling milestone. After securing his first wicket in the 14th over, he unlocked the feat. 

In the 14th over, with Mushfiqur Rahim on strike, Rabada bowled the fifth delivery to him. The ball nipped back sharply from a length, seaming in with a touch of extra bounce. It beat Rahim’s defense, sneaking past the inside edge. Later it crashed into the top of the middle stump.

Rabada set a new record by becoming the fastest to reach 300 Test wickets in terms of balls bowled. He surpassed Waqar Younis, who took 12,602 deliveries to achieve the milestone. Rabada reached the mark in just 11,187 balls. Along with that, Rabada became the sixth South African to reach 300 Test wickets. He joins an elite group of bowlers, including Dale Steyn, Shaun Pollock, and other South African greats.

Third Fastest South African to Achieve the Feat:

Kagiso Rabada is the third-fastest South African to reach 300 Test wickets, following Dale Steyn and Allan Donald. Rabada achieved this feat in his 65th Test match. In comparison, Steyn reached the milestone in his 61st Test in 2013, while Donald accomplished it in his 63rd match in 2000.

At the global level, India’s Ravichandran Ashwin holds the overall record, taking 300 Test wickets in just 54 matches. Among fast bowlers, the record is held by former Australian pacer Dennis Lillee.

In the first Test match, Bangladesh is struggling in front of the South African bowling attack. While bowling in the first innings, South African bowler Wiaan Mulder secured the first wicket after dismissing Shadman Islam. After that, he dismissed Mominul Haq. They kept their domination alive. Mulder and Kagiso Rabada secured 3 wickets each. Only in the 38 overs, Bangladesh is 102/9.
