Yesterday’s IPL 2024 match between Mumbai Indians and Kolkata Knight Riders was quite a show to watch. The match was held in Wankhede Stadium where KKR had their first win in 12 years.
Hardik pandya’s Mumbai Indians didn’t shy away from showing their great hospitality to their guest team, by losing the match. The team had earlier won the toss and opted to bowl first.
Kolkata scored a total of 169 runs. The target wasn’t a lot, considering the current state of T20 cricket in the IPL as 200+ scorer matches have become quite common in the season.
Abhishek Nayar Praises Shreyas
After KKR’s win, the coach of KKR Academy, responsible to groom and teach younger players has spoken up about Shreyas Iyer.
The 40 year old ex cricketer said that Shreyas Iyer has shown his skills on the field while defending low scores. Especially in a time when the impact substitute rule has turned the matches into high scoring ones.
Abhishek Nayar said “Credit to Shreyas Iyer, in the field – leading, defending a low score, we have seen how high scoring has been this IPL”.
KKR wins first match at Wankhede in 12 years
Kolkata Knight Riders has finally gotten rid of their bad luck at the Mumbai stadium. While KKR and MI faced off against each other for the first time this season, the Kolkata team seemed to be jinxed with losing games at Wankhede.
The last time KKR won a match in the stadium was in 2012. Sunil Narine became the man of the match back then.
This year, Venkatesh Iyer is the Player of the Match for his match-winning knock. He starts by saying that as a professional he needs to be flexible given the situation and had to play the anchor role and is happy that it came off.
