Lancashire Signs Australian All-Rounder Chris Green for Two Seasons in Vitality T20 Blast

Lancashire County Cricket Club has officially signed Australian allrounder Chris Green as one of their overseas players for the upcoming Vitality T20 Blast seasons in 2025 and 2026. The 31-year-old's impactful performance during the previous season, where he emerged as Lancashire's leading wicket-taker, has solidified his position within the team.

A Strong Performance in the Previous Season

In the 2024 Vitality T20 Blast, Green played a pivotal role, taking 14 wickets and helping Lancashire secure a place in the knockout stage. Unfortunately, due to commitments in the Caribbean Premier League (CPL), he was unavailable for their quarter-final match against Sussex. His contract with Lancashire also includes provisions to participate in the County Championship and One-Day Cup, depending on availability.

Green's versatility was further showcased when he played for Trent Rockets in The Hundred, where he continued to demonstrate his skills across formats. In addition to his T20 success, he made six appearances in the One-Day Cup, where he notably scored his maiden century, and participated in one County Championship match.

Excitement for the Future

Expressing his enthusiasm about returning to Lancashire, Green stated, "I absolutely loved my first year with the club and I am even more excited to be coming back for the next two seasons - I can't wait to join up with the team again next summer." He praised the camaraderie within the team and expressed confidence in their potential for future successes: "I know that there are big things to come, and I am looking forward to playing my part in that during 2025 and 2026."

Green also acknowledged the support from fans and members of the club: "I really felt the support from all of the Red Rose Members and supporters this summer and I can't wait to see you all again next season at Emirates Old Trafford."

Mark Chilton, Lancashire's director of cricket performance, emphasized how crucial securing Green's services was for the club heading into winter preparations. "Chris made a huge impact for us on the field and had a number of options and offers to play around the world," Chilton remarked. "We are delighted that he has committed to being here at Emirates Old Trafford."

Chilton highlighted not only Green's on-field performances but also his leadership qualities that positively influenced the team's dynamics: "Not only did Chris' performances with bat and ball stand out this season but he also really impressed us with his leadership."

Breetzke Returns to Northamptonshire

In related latest cricket news, Northamptonshire has re-signed South African top-order batter Matthew Breetzke for the first half of the 2025 season. Breetzke will be available for Northants' initial eight County Championship matches as well as throughout the group stage of the Vitality T20 Blast. The 25-year-old had an impressive run in 2024, finishing as Northants' leading run-scorer in the Blast with 460 runs at a strike rate of 153.84.

Breetzke expressed his excitement about returning: "I'm delighted to sign with Northamptonshire for the 2025 season... I think the team has a lot of potential to push for promotion as well as go a few steps further in the Blast and win it."
