Sri Lanka didn’t have a great start and had a debacle against New Zealand as they lost by ten wickets. Next match saw them coming back but against a weak side, Afghanistan. They won the rain-affected match by 34 runs (DLS). Malinga was impressive and scalped three wickets to finish with 3/39. In fact, he had a good partnership with the young Nuwan Pradeep who took four wickets. Their third encounter against Pakistan was washed out due to massive rain. Currently, Sri Lanka is standing at sixth place with three points.

Team Issues

Sri Lankan team already have their issues to be dealt with. Moreover, Pradeep is out from the tournament for one week. His little finger has been dislocated during practice and he is undergoing treatment. Pradeep is missing today’s clash against Bangladesh but expected to return in the next.

With Sri Lanka, not in their best form and already having injury issues with one of the best bowlers in the side depend a lot on the experienced Malinga. So by chance Malinga cannot join the team before the next match against the defending champions that will be a huge blow for the team.
