The 2025 cricketing calendar has started off with a bang with al lot of international action to go along with the different T20 Leagues across the global but now it is time to focus on the biggest rivalry in Women's cricket as Australia Women play host to England Women in the 2025 Women's Ashes which will be played across all three formats of the game and a point system will decide which side will take the bragging rights. We have the three-game ODI up first and the hosts have already taken a 1-0 lead thanks to a victory at the North Sydney Oval. The second match will take place at the Junction Oval and England Women will be eager to hit back and level up the series. In Sydney, the surface seemed like a belted but there was some swing and up and down bounce for the pacers and then, the spinners got a fair bit of purchase as well which made it difficult to start with the bat. The English batters fell prey to not kicking on once getting an eye in and played a few loose shots which were forced upon by some really tight bowling from the Aussies. Eventually a few individuals contributions took England Women over the 200 run mark but it seemed below par. Chasing 205 for the win, Australia Women had a shaky start themselves and lost the likes of Phoebe Litchfield and Ellyse Perry as Lauren Bell and Lauren Filer bowled top opening spells. Sophie Ecclestone always seemed in the game but skipper Alyssa Healy made sure that she didn't let a promising start go to waste. However, she fell in the 80s, leaving the door slightly ajar and the visitors almost made a match out of it but Ash Gardner kept a cool head and took them over the line. If that experienced English top order gets going, things could be quite different in the second ODI and on the whole, the bowling front both sides was brilliant and it was more a matter of a couple of individuals stepping up with the bat for the Aussies. It should be yet another cracking contest and we get to watch it with comfort. Who are you backing for the win?
