Right then, that is it from this exciting clash where Hobart Hurricanes make it four wins in a row while Adelaide Strikers are still searching for their third victory. Next up in the Big Bash League 2024/25 is a tasty encounter between Brisbane Heat and Sydney Thunder. That game is scheduled to take place on 6th January, Monday, at 8.15 am, but as you know, you can always join us early for all the build-up to the match. Until then, cheers and goodbye!
Tim David is the PLAYER OF THE MATCH for his smashing knock of 62 off 28 balls. He says that he said to Nikhil Chaudhary that he is not able to hit the ball cleanly but got a bit lucky out there. Adds that they knew it was going to be a good batting pitch seeing the first innings. Mentions that they are clicking at the right time and they did not want to carry a lot of baggage from the last season.
Presentation Time...
Earlier in the game, Adelaide Strikers set an imposing total, thanks to a well-rounded performance from their batting lineup. Chris Lynn led the charge with a top score of 49, while valuable contributions from Ollie Pope, Alex Ross, and Jamie Overton bolstered the innings. For Hobart Hurricanes, Waqar Salamkheil stood out with two wickets, while Riley Meredith, Billy Stanlake, and Chris Jordan each claimed one to keep the scoring in check.
Adelaide Strikers had a rough start, struggling to contain the onslaught in the early overs and looking a bit out of rhythm. However, the introduction of spin after the Powerplay turned things around. The duo of Lloyd Pope and Cameron Boyce made a significant impact, each picking up two crucial wickets just when the Hurricanes seemed poised to take control. Unfortunately, AS couldn’t sustain the momentum and leaked runs during the Power Surge. Jamie Overton had a particularly tough outing, conceding 20 or more runs in two of his overs, which shifted the game back in the Hurricanes’ favor, leaving the Strikers unable to recover.
Tim David then unleashed a breathtaking onslaught, proving why he’s regarded as one of the most lethal finishers in the game. The Hurricanes took the Power Surge at the perfect moment, hammering 41 runs during the phase, with David dispatching the ball to all parts of the ground. Nikhil Chaudhary deserves credit for playing a crucial supporting role from the other end. Though Choudhury fell with victory in sight, David remained unbeaten on a sensational 62 off just 28 balls. Chris Jordan sealed the deal with the winning runs, securing HH their fourth consecutive victory.
Hobart Hurricanes came out all guns blazing, with openers Mitchell Owen and Matthew Wade delivering a flurry of boundaries. They raced past 50 runs in the Powerplay before Owen fell for a blistering 37 off just 16 balls. Wade didn’t last much longer, but HH remained within striking distance of the required run rate. However, Shai Hope found it tough to get going, and the momentum began to dip just before the first drinks break as the spinners tightened their grip.
A magnificent run chase from Hobart Hurricanes! At the halfway mark, this total looked like a mountain to climb, but Tim David had some other ideas. He has blasted 62 off just 28 balls to power his side to win with 8 balls to spare. With this, they move to third in the table, while Adelaide Strikers will need to go back to the drawing board to get their campaign back on track.
