Sophie Devine wins the Player of the Match award. She says they talked about playing good cricket for long periods and they did that today. Tells partnerships were important in the match. Lauren Down and Izzy Gaze played brilliantly and helped them to get a competitive score after the openers laid the foundation. Tells taking wickets regularly was important and it gives a lot of faith in other bowlers. Ends by saying an exciting challenge awaits on Tuesday.
Harmanpreet Kaur says they gave away too many runs and dropped too many catches but still thinks it was a chaseable target. Appreciates the knocks from Yadav and Thakor. Mentions they weren't up to the mark and will look to build partnerships in the next game and hopes it can help them win the series.
...Presentation...
India Women were reeling right from the start. Whenever India tried to build a stand, they lost a wicket and it continued throughout the innings. The loss was on the cards once the likes of Kaur and Sharma fell but the margin was reduced by Yadav and Thakor who showed great character with the bat and made New Zealand Women to toil a bit hard for the win. India were poor in all three compartments. They dropped too many catches early on and gave 20-25 extra runs. The pressure was too big for the batters to chase it down however they succumbed into it.
A dominating performance from New Zealand Women and they have levelled up the series. It was a bit frustrating when Yadav and Saima Thakor put up a late partnership but it never troubled them. They were right on the money with the ball. The start from them, when they took 3 wickets inside the Powerplay just pushed India Women back and never allowed them to get control of the game. Lea Tahuhu bowled well with the new ball and then came in the middle phase to strike again. Sophie Devine put up a complete all round performance. Her slower deliveries deceived the Indian batters and she too ended with three wickets.
