Right then, that is it from the game. The two teams will be disappointed but the good part is that they share a point each. The SA20 action continues as we have a game lined up on Monday, the 13th of January. It will be between the MI Cape Town and the Paarl Royals at 9 pm IST (3.30 pm GMT). Do join us for the early build up as well. Until then, take care, and cheers!
Update 9.54 pm IST (4.24 pm GMT) - NO, NO, NO! Everyone in the crowd looks disappointed as the captains shake hands after a long chat with the match officials. Well, the dreaded news is that the match has been officially ABANDONED WITHOUT A BALL BEING BOWLED! The umpires did give a start time but seems like something happened after that. Word is that there were a couple of incidents on the wet outfield, especially that including Rahmanullah Gurbaz. Seeing that, perhaps the umpires felt that it is better to call off the game than bring in injuries.
9.42 pm IST (4.12 pm GMT) - We have a start time! The play is set to begin at 10.06 pm IST (4.36 pm GMT) and it will be a 5 overs per side game. Can we finally see raining sixes and not water?
Update 9.25 pm IST (3.55 pm GMT) - More good news! The covers are slowly coming off and the skies have cleared for now. The stumps are on the ground too. Let's hope it stays this way and we get some cricket.
Marques Ackerman is in for a chat as well. He says that he is grateful and his baby is doing well at home. Adds that unfortunately, he has to leave his wife and child at home to play here. Says that Rilee Rossouw is a good captain and he is looking forward to facing Keshav Maharaj today. Ends by saying in a funny way that the length balls become short for him as his height is shorter.
Keshav Maharaj is in for a quick chat. He says that they had a lot of chatting in the dressing room, watched the highlights of the previous game, and had some coffee as well. Adds that there will be fatigue around as this is a long tournament but they have enough guys in the squad. Ends by saying that they need to keep the energy going.
Update 9.13 pm IST (3.43 pm GMT) - Good news, folks! The rain has stopped at the SuperSport Park, prompting the groundstaff to swiftly initiate the drying process. The supersopper is actively soaking up excess water in the outfield. The players are out there doing the warmups.
More updates but not from the SuperSport Park. This one is about the Women's Ashes opener that happened earlier in Sydney! The Aussies secured a four-wicket win in the 2025 Women's Ashes, despite a few hiccups. Alyssa Healy and Ashleigh Gardner were the stars for them, guiding the hosts to a 205-run target. England had to defend a low total as Lauren Filer and Sophie Ecclestone took crucial wickets but it fell short, and Australia took a crucial 2-point lead. Crucially, fielding let both the sides down surprisingly, which saw a few dropped catches, given the high standards both set in Women's cricket. Irrespective, we got a cracker of an opener, befitting an Ashes spectacle!
JUST IN - The cut off time for a 5 overs per side game is 10.06 pm IST (4.36 pm GMT). Let's hope we get some cricket soon. Sit tight!
Update 8.27 pm IST (2.57 pm GMT) - Back at the SuperSport Park, the inclement weather persists here and the fans are eagerly waiting for the resumption of play. Agh, this is frustrating!
Here's something for the football fans around. Arsenal welcome the FA Cup holders, Manchester United, to the Emirates Stadium today for a highly anticipated third-round tie. United have struggled with their form recently under Ruben Amorim, but a win would provide a timely boost for them and their fans as well, reigniting their FA Cup ambitions. The game is set to begin soon at 8.30 pm IST (3 pm GMT).
In the meantime, you guys can also switch tabs to the ongoing BPL 2024-25 between the Dhaka Capitals and the Durbar Rajshahi. Dhaka Capitals ran a havoc in the first innings and posted a massive 254 for the loss of just 1 wicket in 20 overs, all thanks to record-breaking centuries from openers Litton Das who scored an unbeaten 125 and Tanzid Hasan, dismissed at 108. They shared a 241-run partnership to leave Rajshahi facing the daunting task of chasing 255.
As we wait for the rain to stop, here is a recap of what happened in the game between India Women and the Ireland Women in their 2nd ODI at Rajkot. India batted first and dominated with a massive total of 370, propelled by Rodrigues' maiden international century, while Ireland responded with their second-highest ODI total of 254, batting second, driven by Forbes, Coulter Reilly, and Delany. Despite a heavy loss by 116 runs, Ireland's improved performance is a positive sign for them, while India's struggle to take wickets in home conditions raises a slight concern ahead of the World Cup.
Update 7.32 pm IST (2.02 pm GMT) - It is now raining here at the SuperSport Park. The covers are firmly in place. The super shopper is doing its bit. The wait game continues...
We should have started by now but the start of play has been delayed. Although there's no official word on the extent of the delay yet. The pitch for now looks covered. Fans and players will have to exercise patience. Stay tuned.
Update 6.45 pm IST (1.15 pm GMT) - Some good news, folks! The rain has eased off a bit here. Let's hope it goes away and the game resumes on time. Fingers crossed.
Rilee Rossouw, the skipper of the Pretoria Capitals, said they also wanted to bowl. He added that they can't control the toss and the overhead conditions but hope that it doesn't rain. He ended by saying that they have a great squad and mentioned two changes in their side.
Earlier during the toss, both captains shared insights on their team strategies and changes in their line-ups. Keshav Maharaj, the skipper of Durban's Super Giants, said that they will bowl first. Added that they will make use of the overhead conditions. He further said that they need to work on their mistakes and overcome them in those areas. Added that they need to be more disciplined and ended by mentioning the three changes on their side.
Update 6.31 pm IST (1.01 pm GMT) - Oh dear! The rain has come down here at the Centurion Park and the covers are on. Let's just hope it goes away soon.
