Call it an inspiration or call it desperation. On seeing the pacers go for runs and spinners turning the ball, skipper Irfan took a gamble and brought on Dilshan Munaweera in the 16th over. That move was a gamble but it paid rich dividends as the last 6 overs went for just 36 runs and got his side 4 wickets! And all the four went to the offie.
Well, well, well. Is this some sort of a comeback by the Konark Suryas Odisha or is the pitch playing tricks? Normally, the saying goes that if the team batting first in a final gets a decent score on the board, it has the advantage. But not sure whether Southern Super Stars will feel the same at the moment, because at 164/6, they will definitely think that they left 15-20 runs out in the middle.
A bizarre initial period of 14 overs for Irfan Pathan. He chose to bowl and for the first 4 overs, his bowlers justified that decision, keeping the Super Stars to 15/1. But then, the next 10 saw the game drift away from Odisha, as they conceded 113 and picked up just one wicket. However, as they say - in cricket, it does not matter how you start. What matters is - how you finish.

OUT! IN THE AIR AND GONE! SSS will be ruing themselves to have given away a massive advantage they had with 190 well in their sights to being restricted at 164. Tossed up on off, Chaturanga de Silva swings against the spin and the ball spins. Gets the outside edge hanging over Yusuf Pathan at short third. Yusuf takes a simple catch to wrap the SSS innings.

Tossed up around off, Chaturanga de Silva looks to swing against the spin and misses again. Excellent from Dilshan Munaweera.

Short of a length around middle and off, Elton Chigumbura slogs this off the cue end towards deep mid-wicket region for one.

Is that a drop? Everyone is smiling. A tad short, outside off, Elton Chigumbura goes for the big heave but misses. The keeper, Richard Levi, cannot gather it. We will wait for the replays to confirm whether the hattrick was averted or messed!
Elton Chigumbura walks in at number 7, replacing Chirag Gandhi, to face the hattrick ball.
OUT! CAUGHT! Another excellent grab. Two in two for the offie. Munwaeera slows this up to the new batter and Chirag Gandhi goes for the big slog sweep. But he cannot quite get the direction correct, as he aims mid-wicket and ends up getting it through long on. But Diwesh Pathania hares across to his left from wide long on, keeps his eyes on the ball and dives to his left to take an absolute screamer!

OUT! CAUGHT! The gamble works for Irfan as his team starts the 20th over with a wicket. And a big one at that. Of the set batter, Hamilton Masakadza. Tossed up, outside off, very less pace to work with. Masakadza, who has been tied down in the last few overs, tries to wind up for a big swing but ends up swinging like a rusty gate. The ball goes miles in the air but does not have enough distance. Ben Laughlin runs across to his right a touch at long off and takes his third catch of the evening! Everyone on the field walks up to congratulate Masakadza. What a knock to play in the final - a magnificent 83 (58). Only time will tell whether this becomes a match-winning contribution or does it become like the one which we witnessed from Mahela Jayawardene in the 2011 ODI World Cup final. The Southern Super Stars are 163/4 with 5 balls left.

Who will bowl the final over? Spinner or pacer? Well, Irfan has decided to go on with Munaweera.

Back of the hand slower one, outside off. Chaturanga de Silva backs off and looks to loft this over Irfan at extra cover but the pace off means he could just get it away, on the bounce to Irfan Pathan at extra cover and take one.
