The Indian Premier League (IPL) is preparing for an exciting IPL 2025 Mega Auction. Mallika Sagar has been announced as the auctioneer for the 2025 mega auction, set to take place on November 24 and 25 in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. This marks a historic moment as Sagar continues her role as the first female auctioneer in IPL history.
Mallika Sagar brings over 20 years of experience as an auctioneer. She previously conducted the Women’s Premier League (WPL) auction and took over from Hugh Edmeades as the auctioneer for IPL 2024. Her extensive background adds a fresh perspective to these high-stakes auctions.
What to Expect at the IPL 2025 Mega Auction?
The IPL 2025 mega auction is expected to be a major event. A total of 1,574 players have registered, including 1,165 Indian players and 409 overseas players. Notable names like KL Rahul, Rishabh Pant, and Shreyas Iyer are anticipated to attract significant attention during the auction.
Franchises are currently conducting trials across India to finalize their wishlists before the auction. Teams such as the Delhi Capitals, Rajasthan Royals, and Mumbai Indians have already held trials. The Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Lucknow Super giants will conduct theirs after the Ranji Trophy ends on November 16.
The IPL 2025 Mega Auction Process
During this two-day event of the IPL 2025 Mega Auction, the ten franchises can fill a total of 204 player slots. Each team may have a maximum of 25 players, with no more than eight being overseas players. The competition among teams ensures that only a select few will make it through the final bidding process led by the auctioneer.
This year, more than 1500 players have registered for the auction. Not all registered players will go under the hammer. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) will release a shortlist before the auction. This list will detail which players will be available for bidding and their respective base prices set by the auctioneer.
