Manav Suthar’s Stunning Seven-Wicket Haul Signals Future of Indian Spin

Manav Suthar delivered a remarkable performance in the ongoing Duleep Trophy, claiming seven wickets in a single innings to lead his team, India C, to victory over India D. 

This impressive feat has garnered significant attention as Suthar showcases his potential to become a key player in India’s spin department.

Suthar’s Performance and Impact In the latest Duleep Trophy match

Suthar’s spell was crucial, dismantling India D’s batting lineup in the second innings and securing a win by 236 runs.

His seven-wicket haul is noteworthy, especially given the Anantapur pitch, which traditionally favours seamers. 

By becoming only the second spinner to achieve a five-wicket haul at this venue, Suthar has proven his adaptability and skill.

On day two of the Duleep Trophy match between India C and India D in Anantapur, Manav Suthar showcased his skillful left-arm orthodox spin bowling.

Unlike the smooth run-up of traditional spinners like Bishan Singh Bedi, Suthar employs a more dynamic approach with quicker strides and a hop.

Despite this modern style, he maintains excellent flight and consistently pitches the ball up.

Suthar’s mastery was evident as he dismantled India D’s batting lineup, taking five wickets for 30 runs in 15 overs. 

His efforts led to a dramatic collapse, reducing India D from a strong position at 186/4 to 203/8 by the end of the day.

The Journey from Pacer to Spinner 

Suthar’s journey to becoming a prominent spinner in Indian cricket is equally compelling. 

Initially, his father envisioned him as a pacer, but his coach, Dheeraj, recognized his potential as a spinner. 

Despite initial resistance, Suthar’s coach helped him refine his technique and harness his natural ability, turning him into a promising spinner.

Suthar made his Ranji Trophy debut for Rajasthan in 2022 and has since taken 65 wickets in 14 First-Class matches.

His standout performance came in the 2022/23 season, where he was Rajasthan’s top wicket-taker with 39 wickets. In 2024, he was part of the India A team that faced England Lions in three unofficial Tests. 

Although he played only one match, he impressively took five wickets across both innings.

Suthar’s success reflects his dedication and the influence of his mentor in shaping his career.
