Marnus Labuschagne showcased his medium-pace skills by bowling a sharp bouncer to Pat Cummins during net practice in Perth.
Labuschagne Surprises With Pace in the Nets
Australia’s Marnus Labuschagne, renowned for his leg-spin and batting prowess, made headlines with his pace-bowling ambitions.Â
In the nets ahead of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy opener in Perth, Labuschagne bowled a well-directed bouncer that made his captain, Pat Cummins, duck.Â
Labuschagne has been working on his medium pace, clocking speeds close to 135 kmph during recent domestic matches.
During an interview last month, Labuschagne boldly claimed he could challenge Virat Kohli with bouncers.Â
“Are you going to get the number three of Australia rolling in, bowling bouncers to Virat Kohli? People want to see that. You want to see, can you play on someone’s ego. Like, ‘are you going to be ducking bouncers from Marnus?” the 30-year-old said.    Â
“I’d love to hit a little 135 bouncer. I’ve got that in me, I reckon. My highest recorded is 132. So 3 kmph,” he added.
His highest recorded speed is 132 kmph, and he aspires to improve further.

Australia’s Tactical Options Without Cameron Green
With Cameron Green sidelined due to injury, Labuschagne’s pace offers Australia flexibility.Â
His ability to break partnerships or provide rest to frontline pacers could be valuable.
Australia also has the option of including Scott Boland as an extra pacer or Mitchell Marsh as an all-rounder.
Captain Pat Cummins leads a well-rounded squad featuring experienced bowlers like Josh Hazlewood and Mitchell Starc.Â
However, Labuschagne’s additional skills could add an element of surprise, especially against a strong Indian batting lineup.
