Mayank Yadav Responds to Criticism Over Bowling Speed in T20I Series vs Bangladesh

Indian fast bowler Mayank Yadav has found himself at the centre of a debate following his performance in the T20I series against Bangladesh. Known for his lightning-fast deliveries in the IPL, where he consistently clocked over 150 kmph, Mayank is yet to hit that mark in this series. In the second T20I held in New Delhi, the speedster delivered with precision, but his speed stayed around 146-149 kmph, prompting comments from Bangladesh’s Tamim Iqbal during the match commentary.

The Remark and the Response

In a light-hearted exchange during the second T20I, Tamim Iqbal pointed out that Yadav had not crossed the 150 kmph mark in the ongoing series.

However, fellow commentator Murali Kartik was quick to respond with a witty remark, saying, “Neither has Bangladesh,” subtly defending Yadav’s performance while highlighting the difference in the two teams’ form.

Yadav had previously clocked speeds exceeding 150 kmph during the IPL, impressing with a 156.7 kmph delivery for the Lucknow Super Giants.

An abdominal strain kept him off the field for a while, but after recovering at the National Cricket Academy, Yadav returned to the squad for the Bangladesh series, eager to make an impact.

Expert Opinions on Yadav’s Development

Former Indian pacer RP Singh shared his views on Yadav’s bowling during a media conference.

While acknowledging his speed, Singh suggested that Yadav still has some work to do to reach the level of experienced players like Mohammed Shami and Akash Deep, especially in challenging conditions such as Australia.

Singh emphasised that Yadav must continue honing his skills in domestic cricket to build patience and develop more variations, which are key to becoming a top-tier fast bowler.

Though Yadav’s speed hasn’t crossed 150 kmph in the current series, his accuracy and ability to consistently challenge the opposition’s batsmen have kept him in the spotlight.

With time, experts believe that Yadav will evolve into a more versatile bowler, adding new dimensions to his game.
