MCG Transforms Ahead of Border-Gavaskar Trophy and Other Fixtures

The Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) is transforming to host the Border-Gavaskar Trophy and other significant matches this season, ensuring a world-class experience for fans.

The iconic Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) is set for a major transformation as it prepares to host the highly anticipated Border-Gavaskar Trophy starting December. This year’s Boxing Day Test between India and Australia marks the highlight of the tournament, with renovations underway to enhance the experience for players and fans alike.

The ongoing renovations at the MCG include moving Australian Football League (AFL) goal posts and laying down drop-in pitches, ensuring that the venue is ready for a packed schedule of cricket action. Along with the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, the MCG will also host several significant matches this season, featuring teams from around the world.

The Border-Gavaskar Trophy Matches

The Border-Gavaskar Trophy kicks off with the first Test on November 22 in Perth, followed by the second Test from December 6-10 at the Adelaide Oval, which promises thrilling day-night matches under lights.

After this, attention will shift to the Gabba in Brisbane for the third Test from December 14-18. 

The marquee event is the traditional Boxing Day Test at the MCG, scheduled for December 26-30, bringing the series to its penultimate stage. 

The final Test will be held at the Sydney Cricket Ground from January 3-7, concluding what is expected to be a highly competitive series.

Other Fixtures at MCG

In addition to the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, the MCG will also be the venue for several other significant fixtures. 

On November 4, the Australian men’s team will face Pakistan in the first of three matches, marking the start of cricket action at the MCG for the season. 

Following that, India A will take on Australia B in a four-day contest starting on November 7.

The MCG will also host the much-anticipated Women’s Ashes, featuring a one-off Test match from January 30 to February 2, along with the first match of the three ODI matches of the Australia-England Ashes series on January 14.
