The new skipper of Bangladesh will be Mehidy Hasan Miraz as Najmul Hossain Shanto remains sidelined by a groin strain ahead of the ODI series against West Indies. This test of leadership comes at an inappropriate time for Miraz as he is already under tremendous pressure of leading a depleted squad in a crucial battle.
The ODI series is scheduled for December 8, 10, and 12 in St. Kitts. It will see Bangladesh aiming to rebuild amid injuries and notable absences in their camp.

The injury list has been a thorn in Bangladesh’s plans. Middle-order batter Towhid Hridoy and wicketkeeper-batter Mushfiqur Rahim are unavailable, nursing groin and finger injuries, respectively. Adding to the setbacks, Mustafizur Rahman has opted out of the series due to personal reasons, and opener Zakir Hasan has been dropped following an underwhelming run.
Meanwhile, the continued absence of Shakib Al Hasan has raised eyebrows. The veteran allrounder has not played for Bangladesh since the Tests in India. He is said to not be in a “mental state” to don the national colours, BCB president Faruque Ahmed reportedly said.
“Playing for a franchise and representing your country are entirely different ball games,” Ahmed explained. “Shakib needs preparation and reintegration into the team environment. Until he feels ready, the decision remains in his hands.”
Fresh Faces and Returning Stars.
Despite the challenges, Bangladesh has welcomed reinforcements. Litton Das, who missed the Afghanistan ODIs last month, returns to the squad. The team also includes young talents like Parvez Hossain Emon, Afif Hossain Dhrubo, Hasan Mahmud, and Tanzim Hasan Sakib.
The team’s management will hope that this blend of youth and experience can overcome the hurdles posed by the West Indies.
