Men in Blue Arrive in Guwahati Ahead of Their Warm-up Match Against Last World Cup Champions England

The stage is set for the biggest tournament in cricket, i.e., the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023. It is usual that before the big event, all the teams gear up themselves by playing warm-up matches so that they can move ahead to a good start. Just after the 3-match ODI series between India and Australia, the Indian cricket team arrived in Guwahati, Assam, to start off with their preparations. The ODI series winner India will face last-time World Cup champions England in its first warm-up match.

The team arrived at the Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport in Guwahati’s Borjhar this afternoon around 3:15 p.m. Meanwhile, the England cricket team will reach the city at midnight. Both teams will stay at the Radisson Blu Hotel in the Jhalukbari area. 

4 warm-up matches that will be played in Guwahati

The city is going to host a total of four warm-up matches ahead of the World Cup from September 29 to October 3. Just the day before, both the Sri Lankan cricket team and the Bangladesh cricket team set foot in Guwahati for the warm-up matches. Both teams are staying at the Vivanta Hotel, situated in the Khanapara area. 

The first warm-up match will be played between Bangladesh and Sri Lanka on September 29, followed by India and England on the next day, i.e., September 30.

The third warm-up match on October 2 will see England and Bangladesh locking horns with each other, while the last warm-up match is scheduled for October 3 between Afghanistan and Sri Lanka. 

Arrival of the ICC trophy at ACA Stadium

For this purpose, the BCCI snubbed Guwahati’s Barsapara Stadium, which stands as the venue for all the warm-up matches. Earlier this month, the ICC trophy reached Guwahati’s Assam Cricket Association (ACA) Stadium, which was unveiled by BCCI’s joint secretary Devajit Saikia, ACA President Taranga Gogoi, and ACA Secretary Tridib Konwar. Devajit Saikia expressed that it was rather a proud moment for Guwahati to host the esteemed World Cup trophy. He said, “No trophy has travelled this far.” “We are extremely honoured and excited to have the trophy in Guwahati.
