The T20 World Cup is coming soon. Before that, IPL is working as the rehearsal stage of the upcoming tournament. But Mumbai Indians is struggling in the tournament. Rohit Sharma is also facing issues with his form and buzz has been created over this match. Former Australian player Michael Clarke backed him in that situation.
Rohit Sharma’s Struggle and Clarke’s View:
The T20 World Cup is coming soon and Rohit Sharma is ready to lead India on the big stage. In the IPL season of 2024, Rohit Sharma showcased his batting prowess with 330 runs, including a high score of 105 not out. His average stood at 30.00. But the Indian great is facing a tough time with the bat. In the ongoing IPL, he has been struggling in the recent few matches. In the latest encounter, Rohit was dismissed on 4 runs. That has been happening for the past few times.
Former Australian captain Michael Clarke suggests Rohit may be disheartened by his performance, considering his self-imposed standards. He said, “ How many times do you see that exact ball go for six though? It happened to Suryakumar Yadav. The exact same ball, exact same shot, except these went for six. Rohit gets out. Rohit, being the wise judge of his own performances, will undoubtedly be disappointed, especially considering his strong start.”
Too Much Stress?
After Virat Kohli stepped down from captaincy, Rohit Sharma took the charge. But in the last few months, the schedule has been hectic. After the World Cup, India went to the South Africa tour, after that, they met Afghanistan at home in a T20 series. Since the end of January, India and England locked horns in a five-match Test series. Clarke sensed Rohit could be weary, particularly following an intense cricketing season since the beginning of 2024.
He said, “In my view, he might be feeling a bit fatigued as well. A break to freshen up could do wonders for him, but as the Indian captain and a key player for Mumbai Indians, you’re not getting a break. So he’s going to have to find form. I saw him the other day before the last game batting in the nets when his back was a little bit stiff. He was in a great mood. He’s happy, which is a really good sign. He doesn’t seem to be struggling with his timing; it’s just a matter of getting out.”
As the speculation going on about Rohit’s form in the upcoming T20 World Cup, Clarke said, “With someone like Rohit, it’s only a matter of time before he finds his form again. Hopefully, he stresses less and focusses on his game because he’s too talented to keep missing out. He’s at his best when he’s timing the ball, rather than trying to force it. He’s a great player, and I have no doubt he’ll bounce back soon. Let’s just hope it’s not at the World Cup again.”
