Mickey Arthur to Coach Rangpur Riders in GSL and BPL
Rangpur Riders, a prominent franchise in the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL), has appointed Mickey Arthur as their new head coach for the upcoming season.
Arthur, a seasoned cricket mentor with international experience, will lead Rangpur Riders in both the Global Super League (GSL) and the BPL starting on November 26.
Rangpur Riders’ team director, Shanian Taneem, expressed enthusiasm for Arthur’s arrival, sharing that the new coach has already been involved in squad building for the upcoming tournaments.
“We have signed Mickey Arthur for the GSL and BPL this year,” Rangpur team director Shanian Taneem said. “It is a one-year deal. He will take care of us for these two tournaments this year. He is a great addition to our side. The local players are really excited to be coached by him. We have been in touch with Mickey for the last seven-eight days to build the squad for GSL and BPL. He is very active, always gladly helping us.
“I think he is perfect for Rangpur Riders’ culture. He is a very friendly guy. He will be of great benefit for the Bangladeshi cricketers in particular. He has huge experience. He has already taken care of so many international sides like Sri Lanka, South Africa and Pakistan.”
Arthur’s Diverse Coaching Background
Mickey Arthur’s coaching career is nothing short of extensive. Having served as head coach for South Africa, Sri Lanka, and Pakistan, Arthur has earned respect for his strategic approach and mentorship on the field.
Currently, he also holds the position of director of cricket for Derbyshire and has recently coached the Dambulla Aura team in the Lanka Premier League. Arthur’s previous experience in the BPL, when he coached the Dhaka Dynamites in 2015, is seen as an advantage for Rangpur Riders, who are eager to learn from his expertise.
Shanian Taneem emphasised Arthur’s friendly and collaborative nature, sharing that the local players are thrilled to work under his guidance.
Taneem noted that Arthur’s international experience will be particularly valuable for the Bangladeshi players, giving them exposure to global cricketing standards.

In preparation for the GSL and BPL, Arthur has been actively involved with the franchise’s management over the past week.
His commitment to creating a competitive squad has already been recognized by the Riders’ management. “Mickey is a perfect fit for our team culture,” Taneem stated, highlighting how Arthur’s strategic insights and rapport with players will benefit the team.
