The second Test between Australia and India at the Adelaide Oval started with fireworks on Day 1. Australian pacer Mitchell Starc delivered a breathtaking first ball to dismiss India’s Yashasvi Jaiswal for a golden duck.
Starc Removes Yashasvi Jaiswal for a Golden Duck
Former Aussie cricketer Tim May ceremonially rang the bell to start the day. However, Starc stole the spotlight immediately after. Bowling with the pink ball under favourable conditions, Starc unleashed a near-yorker-length outswinger that angled in and then swung away late.
Jaiswal, who had confidently sledged Starc in the previous Test in Perth by calling him “too slow,” found himself completely undone. He attempted to flick the delivery but missed, and the ball struck him flush on the front pad. Starc and the Australians erupted in appeal, and the umpire wasted no time raising his finger.
After consulting briefly with KL Rahul, Jaiswal decided against a review and walked back for a golden duck.
Watch the dismissal here:
Starc’s fiery delivery not only sent Jaiswal back but also silenced critics who had questioned his pace and form. The dismissal was particularly sweet, given Jaiswal’s pointed comments in Perth. Starc’s grin as he celebrated the wicket seemed to reflect the satisfaction of proving a point.

India Win the Toss, Decide to Bat First
Earlier in the day, Indian skipper Rohit Sharma won the toss and made the bold decision to bat first, despite the green top and overcast conditions. “We are going to bat first. Looks a good pitch, looks a bit dry at the moment, enough grass covering as well. It’ll have some carry for the fast bowlers. As the game goes on, it’ll get better to bat on. There will be something in it for everyone. It’s going to be a good game.”
India made three changes for the match. Sharma and Shubman Gill returned to the XI, replacing Devdutt Padikkal and Dhruv Jurel, while Ravichandran Ashwin was brought in for Washington Sundar.
