The Men in Blue secured a resounding victory against South Africa yesterday, on November 5 at the Eden Gardens Stadium in Kolkata. Rohit Sharma and Co. dismissed the Proteas for a paltry score of 83 runs, making sure to win its 8th match of the ongoing World Cup. After having won the toss, the Men in Blue slammed 326 runs, which included Virat Kohli’s brilliant century knock along with efficient knocks by several other players.Â
Mohammad Kaif’s take on Shreyas Iyer
Yesterday, Shreyas Iyer was that one batsman for team India who delivered an exceptional performance by scoring 77 runs off 85 balls, playing effortlessly on the spin attack. Speaking about such a powerful execution by Shreyas Iyer, Indian former cricketer Mohammad Kaif lauded the 28-year cricketer remarking “He plays spin exceptionally well. I have worked with him in the IPL. In my opinion, no one plays spin better than him in this team because he takes singles and doubles well, and hits sixes straight down the ground.”
Discussing further about a great length shot that came from Iyer in yesterday’s match, Kaif asserted “We saw him hitting a 106-metre six in the last match at the Wankhede. In the middle overs, when spin creates pressure with dot balls, he finds boundaries there. That is his strength.”
Easing it out for Virat Kohli
At the time when Virat Kohli wasn’t able to move ahead by hitting the boundaries, Shreyas Iyer’s role proved to be of great significance as he smashed fours then relieving the pressure on Kohli to take more runs. In the outstanding knock played by Iyer, he hit a total of seven fours and two sixes taking the team ahead of a great delivery. He together took the likes of Keshav Maharaj and Tabraiz Shamsi with Shamsi conceding 72 runs in the 10 overs he bowled.Â
