Indian fast bowler Mohammed Shami, recovering from an Achilles tendon injury, is set to make his domestic return with Bengal before rejoining the international circuit. Shami, who was the leading wicket-taker in the 2023 ODI World Cup, is gradually working his way back to full fitness.
Achilles Tendon Injury
Indian pacer Mohammed Shami, who has been out of action since the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023 due to an Achilles injury, recently underwent successful surgery on his tendon in London on February 26.Â
Shami had managed to play through the injury during the World Cup but needed rest and rehabilitation afterward. After spending nearly three months at the National Cricket Academy (NCA), doctors advised him to undergo surgery for a complete recovery.
Shami shared updates on social media after the surgery, saying, “I just had a successful surgery on my Achilles tendon! Recovery will take some time, but I’m looking forward to getting back on my feet.”

Shami last played in the ODI World Cup 2023 final against Australia at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. He was the tournament’s top wicket-taker, with 24 wickets at an average of 10.70 and a strike rate of 12.20, with his best performance being 7/57.
Currently recovering from an Achilles tendon injury, Shami has started training in the nets and shared a video of himself bowling on social media.
There are rumours that he might return in the upcoming Bangladesh Test series, but Shami has denied these, saying he doesn’t have a set timeline for his comeback yet.
