Kanpur, Sep 30, 2024 – India showcased a clinical performance on Day 4 of the rain-hit second Test against Bangladesh, thanks to their deep batting order and aggressive approach, according to India’s bowling coach Morne Morkel. The team’s ability to adapt quickly and switch gears seamlessly was on full display as they aimed for a result despite losing significant time to rain.

Morkel heaped praise on captain Rohit Sharma for his leadership, which set the tone for India’s aggressive stance. “Rohit has done it so many times. He led from the front, smashing a six off the first ball. His decision to go on the attack helped the team gain momentum,” Morkel said.
Team India’s bowling unit also shone, with Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj, and Akash Deep combining to bowl Bangladesh out for 233 in the first innings. Morkel commended their efforts, adding, “Even when we weren’t taking wickets, we created pressure. The way they attacked from the start was outstanding.”
Depth in Batting Order a Key Strength
A major takeaway from India’s performance was their ability to switch between formats, showing T20-style aggression when needed.
Morkel attributed this to the depth in India’s batting line-up. “We have guys who can bat time or take the game on when necessary.
The ability to adapt to different situations is what sets us apart,” said Morkel. This depth allowed India to accelerate the scoring rate, crucial for pushing for a win with limited time.
Ravindra Jadeja: The Complete Package
Morkel also highlighted Ravindra Jadeja’s contribution as he claimed his 300th Test wicket, referring to him as the “complete package.”
“Jadeja can bat, bowl, and make magic happen in the field. He’s a player every team dreams of having,” Morkel noted. With India pressing for victory, Jadeja’s all-round capabilities further bolstered the team’s chances of securing a win.
Despite the weather disruptions, India’s intent to push for a result remains firm as they head into the final day of play.
