A Star Sports jury acknowledged Chennai Super Kings captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni as IPL’s GOAT captain. Dhoni beat Rohit Sharma in the race who is the captain of Mumbai Indians.
GOAT captain Dhoni
On the 13th anniversary of the Indian Premier League, Dhoni was named the Greatest of All Time captain of the league. With three IPL titles undoubtedly Dhoni is one of the best and the Captain Cool with a win percentage of stunning 60.11 went past Rohit Sharma who helped Mumbai Indians win four titles. Dhoni literally announced himself as a great captain in the 2007 T20 World Cup and then was bought by Chennai Super Kings in the first IPL auction in 2008 as their most expensive player. With each league, Dhoni grew to be an icon from a player. The southern part of India now calls him ‘Thala’, the boss. The image of Dhoni is such that amid uncertainty and controversy regarding his international cricket career the franchise declared him as their captain of 2020 season pretty early.
Nehra picks Dhoni
With over 4000 runs at an average of almost 42 in the league, Dhoni is also one of the mainstays of the Chennai based side. He also ended as the leading run-scorer in the 2019 edition which again proves his worth. In eight finals, which is the most by any captain in the tournament he led his team to the top four in 11 out of 12 seasons. Former fast bowler Ashish Nehra giving due to credit to Dhoni said, “My pick for the greatest captain is MS Dhoni, under whose captaincy I have played the maximum, be it for the national team or in the IPL.”
Apart from Nehra, Sanjay Manjrekar, Daren Ganga, Scott Styris, Mike Hesson, Dean Jones, Russell Arnold, Simon Doull and Graeme Smith were the ones who picked Dhoni among the likes of Rohit Sharma, Gautam Gambhir, Shane Warne, Adam Gilchrist, and David Warner.
