The IPL 2024 is unfolding drama almost in every match. Fans are enjoying some thrilling fixtures. The match between Mumbai Indians and Punjab Kings has been highlighted for some intense performances. But after the match, Tim David and Kieron Pollard were fined 20% of their match fees for breaching the IPL code of conduct during the match.
Kieron Pollard and Tim David’s Fine:
Mumbai Indians batter Tim David and batting coach Kieron Pollard faced a 20% match fee fine for violating the IPL’s code of conduct during their game against Punjab Kings. The breach, categorized as a Level 1 offense under Article 2.20, pertains to actions contrary to the spirit of the game. Both David and Pollard were reprimanded following the incident in Mullanpur on Thursday during the Tata IPL 2024 match.
The Incident:
In a pivotal moment during the 15th over, Punjab Kings’ pacer Arshdeep Singh delivered a wide yorker to Mumbai Indians’ batsman Suryakumar Yadav. Despite Yadav failing to make contact, the on-field umpire opted not to signal it as a wide. However, attention quickly shifted to the MI dugout, where head coach Mark Boucher gestured to Yadav that the delivery was indeed wide. Additionally, Tim David and batting coach Kieron Pollard urged Yadav to review the decision, signaling for the ‘T’ using their hands, as per reports
Responding to the team’s prompt, Suryakumar Yadav opted for the review. Despite objections from Punjab Kings’ stand-in captain Sam Curran, the third umpire overturned the decision, deeming the delivery a wide. Consequently, Arshdeep Singh was required to bowl an additional delivery to complete the over, which Yadav capitalized on by sending it to the boundary, altering the course of the game.
BCCI’s Statement:
After that incident, BCCI gave an official statement. They said, “David and Pollard committed a Level 1 offence under Article 2.20 of the IPL’s Code of Conduct. David and Pollard were each fined 20 percent of their respective match fees. Both admitted to the offence and accepted the Match Referee’s sanction. For Level 1 breaches of the Code of Conduct, the Match Referee’s decision is final and binding.”
Mumbai Indians clinched a nine-run victory against PBKS, positioning themselves seventh on the points table with three wins and four losses in seven games. PBKS, despite commendable performances, suffered a disheartening defeat. Mumbai’s upcoming clash is scheduled against Rajasthan Royals in Jaipur on April 22.
