Murali Vijay gets ready for County Championship

Somerset’s new recruit Murali Vijay is no longer a regular name in the senior team of India. But he is not bothered for the same. He claims that his passion for the sport makes him thrive for good cricket in future irrespective of teams.

Murali Vijay was last seen playing Test for India in December 2018. Then he was dropped after ordinary outings during India’s tour to Australia and England in the 2018-19 season. But he kept trying even after being excluded from the national side. In the recently concluded Tamil Nadu, Premier League Vijay scored 359 runs, including a hundred, in four T20 matches while plying his trade for Ruby Trichy Warriors.

Now he is all set to replace Pakistani opener Azhar Ali in Somerset for the last three matches of the Specsavers County Championship season. Speaking to the press days ahead of the same, Vijay said, “I play cricket just for pride and sheer passion for it. I do not look forward to playing for India or world level. My funda is to play cricket at a higher level. So, any cricket is good for me and I am looking forward to contributing to the teams I play for.”

Vijay knows that his journey to the national team with the likes of Mayank Agarwal and KL Rahul as current contenders will not be easy. He may not try to prove something but a good County outing will definitely be beneficial for him. His focus is to play good cricket at every opportunity and that’s certainly the only way to bring the fortune back. “I know how to do that and I want to contribute to whichever team I play for. I want to make the team win and also get the youngsters in the right mindset,” Vijay said to ANI.
