Bangladesh‘s star pacer, Mustafizur Rahman, was stretchered off the field during the third ODI against Sri Lanka in Chattogram. The incident occurred due to severe cramps under the sweltering sun.
Mustafizur Rahman makes an impact
Mustafizur had an impactful performance, claiming two wickets for 39 runs in his nine overs. However, during the 42nd over, he was seen struggling on the pitch, clutching his stomach. He even fell to the ground after bowling the last ball of that over.
Despite his discomfort, Mustafizur returned to the attack in the 48th over to bowl his final over. However, he couldn’t complete the over, as he couldn’t go through the first ball in his first attempt. He tried to bowl with a shortened run-up but ended up bowling a wide ball before deciding that he couldn’t continue.
In his place, Soumya Sarkar bowled the over, claiming the wicket of Maheesh Theekshana and conceding just five runs.
This match marked Mustafizur’s first appearance in the series, as he was picked in place of the injured Tanzim Hasan Sakib.
Sri Lanka’s innings in the third ODI against Bangladesh ended with a total of 235 runs, thanks largely to Liyanage’s resilient century. Despite a shaky start, with early wickets falling, Liyanage’s steadfast batting kept Sri Lanka afloat. Taskin’s sharp bowling caused trouble, but Liyanage’s solid presence ensured Sri Lanka surpassed the 200-run mark. His partnership with Theekshana added crucial runs.
However, Sri Lanka’s lower order couldn’t provide the final flourish needed to boost the total. Taskin took 3 wickets, while Mustafizur and Mehidy Hasan claimed 2 each. Sri Lanka’s total might be considered 20-30 runs short, given the challenging pitch conditions. The focus now shifts to the Bangladesh run-chase as they aim to secure victory in this crucial match.
