In the new year, another exciting season of IPL is coming soon. All teams are gearing up well for the upcoming season. Before heading to the next IPL season, Shane Bond ended this tenure with Mumbai Indians and tied up with Rajasthan Royals. He is also a part of Paarl Royals. Recently, he opened up about his career and his favorite ground Eden Gardens.
Bond on his ‘Mumbai Indians’ Times:
Shane Bond has an amazing career as a bowling coach. He was there with the Mumbai Indians camp for nine long years. Before the IPL 2024 season, Mumbai Indians opted for Lasith Malinga as their bowling coach and Shane Bond tied up with Rajasthan Royals. Currently, he is a part of the pink. Just not in IPL, he is also featuring in the SA20 league for Paarl Royals.
Recently, while talking about his coaching career, he went back to his Mumbai Indians days. He praised Jasprit Bumrah and Hardik Pandya. The ex-bowling coach of Mumbai Indians said, “ It felt nice seeing them develop into international players and then world-class players; it has been fun to be a small part of that as well. My nine years at Mumbai was a fantastic time.”
Shane Bond on Siraj and Eden Gardens:
Like many cricketers, Bond is also mesmerized by Mohammed Siraj’s bowling experience. He praised this bowler and also praised players like Shaheen Afridi, Madushanka, and Coetzee. He said, “Siraj is awesome at the moment. You are seeing guys like Shaheen Afridi emerge, but you forget how young he is. He has had some injury problems, and you forget he is 23 years of age, and the expectation on the young guy has been massive. We also saw the emergence of a lot of young, good fast bowlers at the World Cup, like Dilshan Madushanka and Gerald Coetzee.”
In his IPL career, bond has spent a long time with Kolkata Knight Riders. He shared his experience of playing in front of a Kolkata crowd and his dressing room experience. He said, “Eden Gardens was a spectacular ground to play at, super noisy, and I made a lot of friends. It was a great experience for me playing alongside Chris Gayle, Sourav Ganguly, David Hussey, and Ajit Agarkar, who is now the chairman of selectors for India.”
