Narine Left Baffled as Bumrah’s Jaffa Cleans Off Stump

After a long delay due to rain, the 60th match for IPL 2024 in Eden Gardens Stadium, Kolkata has started with a bang. The match is a face off between two teams on the opposite sides of the “playoffs” spectrum, with Kolkata Knight Riders being one of the first teams to be selected for the playoffs while Mumbai Indians is the first team to be out of the race.

MI Captain Hardik Pandya won the toss and opted to bowl first. KKR is busy batting, and trying to score a good number of runs for MI to chase.

Bumrah takes Narine’s wicket, Salt loses his to Thushara

Currently, KKR has lost 2 wickets, that too in 1.1 overs, with 10 runs to their name.

Kolkata lost the wickets of Phil Salt and Sunil Narine, both the openers for their team. Nuwan Thushara took the wicket of Phil Salt. It seemed as if the slower ball had done the trick for Nuwan Thushara as Salt lost his wicket in the first over

Similarly, the star player for KKR this season, Sunil Narine has lost his wicket to a miscalculation. While Jasprit Bumrah was bowling a yorker in the first ball of the second over, a hint of late inward movement was there and Sunil Narine misread the line of the delivery and shoulders arms, exposing all his stumps. The ball crashed at the base of the off-stump, hence conquering Narine’s wicket.

Match delay due to rain leads to 16 overs

As the toss got delayed due to heavy rains in Kolkata, there had to be done an inspection of the field and pitch, in order to make sure that it was in perfect condition for a game.

This inspection was scheduled for 8:45 pm, the toss happened at 9:00 pm instead of the usual 7:30 and the match started at 9:15 pm.

With this, the match had to be shortened to 16 overs per side, and not 20, as the T20 format suggests.
