The match between England and Australia is underway at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad with England struggling hard to win the not-so-important match as 2019 World Cup champions are already out of the marquee event. With the match still going, England decided to bowl first after winning the toss with the Aussies continuing to showcase their batting prowess.
The Men in Yellow delivered a commended target of 286 runs getting bowled out in 49.3 overs. Though initially the Aussies had a staggering start, they went all solid in the middle overs with Marnus Labuschagne amassing 71 runs off 83 deliveries. Along with him, Steve Smith (44), Cameron Green (47), and Marcus Stoinis (35) also contributed significantly in the total runs scored. England’s Chris Woakes scalped a crucial 4-wicket haul which was instrumental in restricting Australia within 286 runs.Â
Naveen-ul-Haq slamming Cricket Australia
In a recent Instagram story, Afghanistan speedster Naveen-ul-Haq mocked Cricket Australia’s decision to not play the ODI series in Afghanistan, mainly cancelling it’s Afghanistan tour due to inappropriate restrictions by the Taliban government on women and girls in Afghanistan. This decision came back in January to which Naveen-ul-Haq has recognized on his Instagram story slamming the Australian board.Â
His story was full of sarcasm as he questioned Australia’s stand in the World Cup given the chilling performance by the England team. He stated “Refusing to play the bilateral series, now it will be interesting to see cricket Australia stand in the World Cup #standrads #humanrights Or 2 points”.
Australia’s next
After today’s match, it will be important for the Aussies to win the next two matches against Afghanistan and Bangladesh to win a ticket into the semi-finals. While the match against Afghanistan is scheduled on November 7 at the Wankhede Stadium, the match against Bangladesh will held at MPCA Stadium in Pune on November 11.
