For the India vs Canada match, the outfield of the ground had gotten wet on the day of the match, as the ground did not have covers to cover the entire ground.

The USA vs Ireland match was also called off under similar circumstances just a day ago, as USA went on to be the second team of Group A to play in the Super 8.

Navjyot expressed his views on the Star Sports’ X account stating,“There is a lot of room for improvement. The ICC should not let the weather dictate conditions; it should be based on the teams’ abilities. Yesterday the sopper conked off because petrol nahi tha (it didn’t have petrol), and the entire ground isn’t covered.”

Sidhu emphasised the differences between cricket and other sports even more, stating, “When you play basketball or rugby, the stadiums are fully covered. This is a great country with enough resources, so it’s essential to ensure that the teams’ abilities are fairly assessed. If strong teams fall behind due to rain, it takes the sting out of the tournament”. He added.

The India vs Canada match got abandoned not because of rain, but due to a wet outfield. A condition, that could’ve been avoided with proper covering of the ground.

Team India looks towards the next step

The Indian men’s cricket team is moving ahead in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 with 3 victories in the 3 matches they have played, with small margins in 2 of these matches.

India was scheduled to play against Canada for their last match of the group stage but the match got abandoned even without a toss taking place.

The men in blue are at the top in the Group A points table with 7 points to their name as they look forward to a match against Afghanistan on 20 June as their first match of the Super Eight.

The USA is the second team from Group A to get to the Super Eight after very impressive matches they played, defeating big teams like Pakistan, despite being in the T20 World Cup for the first time.
